San Diego, CA – November 19, 2008 – EMB, a global property and casualty (P&C) consulting firm, today announced that the Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS) has honored Tom Hettinger, Managing Director North America, with the Above and Beyond Achievement Award for 2008. Hettinger was recognized for his roles as Chair of this year’s ERM Symposium and leader of the task force to create the 2009 Ratemaking and Product Management Seminar, of which he is now the Chair.
Each year, the CAS recognizes one or two of its members who have displayed dedication to furthering the CAS’s mission and spearheaded efforts that go beyond what is expected from volunteers of the organization. This year, Hettinger was recognized alongside David Hartman, retired Chief Actuary and Managing Director of The Chubb Group of Insurance Companies , at the CAS’s annual business meeting on November 17 in Seattle, WA.
Hettinger was nominated for the award primarily due to his work as Chair of the 2008 ERM Symposium Planning Committee. In this role, Hettinger led and coordinated with seven different organizations across North America. Hettinger’s ability to effectively manage and solve the complexities in planning a successful, international event led to the honor. In addition to the ERM Symposium, Hettinger also led the committee to develop a new CAS seminar, the Ratemaking and Product Management Seminar scheduled for March 2009 and has since assumed the leading role in developing and executing the Seminar.
